Bollington Hearing Centre is run by Audiologist Clare Kewney and her father Barry Downes. They have both been part of the Bollington community since 1986.

Clare

Followed in her Fathers footsteps and qualified as an Audiologist in 1997. She is a registered Health and Care Professional (HCPC), a Fellow of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (BSHAA), and a member of the National Community Hearing Association (NCHA).

Having gained many years experience working in the NHS. After that, in the private sector, Clare has a wealth of knowledge. In addition, she is fully trained in all the earwax removal methods, (microsuction, irrigation and instrument). She is also an expert hearing technology and a Tinnitus Advisor. Additionally Clare lectures on behalf of Mary Hare School for the Deaf and UK Audiology Ltd.

The opening of this centre fulfils a life long ambition for Clare. Not only to have her own practice, but for it to be in Bollington. In short, the place where she grew up and really loves.

Barry

His immersion in the independent hearing care sector, in a number of roles, started in 1977. With many years experience as a practitioner, hearing expert and registered dispenser of hearing aids. Likewise in a number of management and teaching roles. Barry has strong connections with the independent sector’s regulators and professional groups.

Currently Barry’s roles include: Registration Assessor for the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Member of the Council of the British Society of Audiology (BSA), Member of the BSA’s Professional Guidance Group.

After many years as a trustee of the charity Hearing Link, subsequently he became a trustee of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. This followed the merger with Hearing Link in 2017.

He is a visiting lecturer at Swansea University in addition to being an examiner for De Montfort University, Leicester.
